The ATS (American Thoracic Society) 2013 International Conference is the premier conference on pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine in the U.S.! As the 26th largest professionally attended healthcare meeting in the United States.

The American Thoracic Society International Conference is about connections. The connection between pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine. The connection between these subspecialties and virtually every other field of medicine. The connection between basic, translational, and clinical research. And, most important, the connection between health care professionals and patients.

Because it engages attendees across disciplines and continents, the ATS International Conference draws a large, diverse group of attendees. By virtue of its size—ATS 2013 will feature more than 5,300 original research projects and case reports, 400 sessions, and 800 speakers—the International Conference is intense, with participants attending sessions and special events from early morning to the evening.

Many attendees are noted experts in their fields, others are in the early years of their medical and scientific careers. All are excited by the prospect of acquiring knowledge that will help them better care for patients or advance their research projects. Throughout the International Conference, attendees will have the chance to meet new and old colleagues. Don’t miss the following important events:

  •     – Fifth Annual ATS Foundation Research Program Benefit honoring Gerard M. Turino, MD, 2013 Recipient of the ATS Foundation Breathing for Life Award on Saturday
  •     – Awards Ceremony and Amberson Lecture, Sunday at 4:45 pm featuring David A. Schwartz, MD, Chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of Colorado
  •     – Plenary Session on Tuesday providing information on the current state, and plans for the future of the Society
  •     – Science Core Track which is a thematically linked set of symposia and posters focused on lung injury and repair
  •     – Discussion of research in critical care and pulmonary medicine recently published in JAMA and NEJM
  •     – Your Assembly Membership Meetings

These connections create a sense of community among the International Conference attendees, which is exactly what the founders of the American Thoracic Society had hoped for when in 1905 they established the world’s first respiratory society.
